A medical procedure used in the prenatal diagnosis of chromosomal abnormalities, sex determination and fetal infections is known as Amniocentesis.

The test checks for fetal abnormalities (birth defects) such as Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis or spina bifida.

It involves removing and testing a small sample of cells from amniotic fluid, the fluid that surrounds the baby in the womb (uterus).

Amniocentesis is performed between 16 and 20 weeks into the pregnancy.

एक चिकित्सा प्रक्रिया जो गर्भावस्था के दौरान गुणसूत्र असामान्यताओं का निदान, लिंग निर्धारण और भ्रूण संक्रमण के लिए उपयोग की जाती है, उसे Amniocentesis (एम्नियोसेंटेसिस) कहा जाता है।

यह परीक्षण भ्रूण असामान्यताओं (जन्म दोष) जैसे कि Down syndrome (डाउन सिंड्रोम), cystic fibrosis (सिस्टिक फाइब्रोसिस) या spina bifida (स्पाइना बिफिडा) की जांच करता है।

इसमें एम्नियोटिक द्रव (amniotic fluid) से कोशिकाओं का एक छोटा नमूना निकालना और परीक्षण करना शामिल होता है, जो गर्भ में बच्चे के चारों ओर होता है।
